NOTE: work in progress…
The Philippines, or “Pinas” as we call it, is an archipelago of 7,641 islands in Southeast Asia. Known for its beautiful landscapes, stunning seascapes, diverse food and rich culture, it has been one of the favorite tropical destination among tourist.
I've lived in Pinas my whole life, and I believe I have valuable insights about this beautiful country that may help travelers on their Philippines trip. With this in mind, I decided to create my ultimate Philippines travel guide, to help you navigate, explore hidden gems, discover delicious local dishes, and equip yourself with practical essentials for an unforgettable experience in the Philippines.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT THE PHILIPPINES
The Philippines is a tropical country with two seasons: wet and dry season. The dry season lasts from November to May, while wet season runs from June to October. Most destinations in Philippines are open year-round, but some may require proper timing, like festivities, surf season, and other seasonal activities.
My favorite time to explore Philippines is December to February, during these months, the weather is cooler and more pleasant from traveling in a tropical country. Also note that during Christmas season, there are places that can get quite crowded like Manila, Baguio and Tagaytay.
GETTING AROUND THE PHILIPPINES
Getting around the Philippines can be a bit complex, as there are several mode of transportation available.
In Manila, you can ride jeepneys, buses, taxis, tricycle and more. It is also common to use Ride-hailing apps like Grab and Angkas. Standard rate applied to all public transport.
While traveling to provinces may require you taking a plane, a ferry or bus.
Most provinces doesn't have taxis or Grab, the only way to explore is by commute or hiring a van, jeepney, boat or trike. Commuting is much cheaper because you'll pay the standard rate, but is time consuming and challenging. If you go with option of renting a transport, be aware that there is no fixed rate. To avoid overpaying, ask around first before making a deal. Usually, in this option, the driver also acts as the tour guide.
PHILIPPINES DESTINATION
The top tourist destinations of Philippines includes Boracay, Palawan, Cebu, Bohol and Siargao.
Aside from these world famous destinations, the Philippines is home to thousands of islands and countless of hidden gems. It is impossible to visit all of it in one go, but you can maximize your Philippines experience by planning your itinerary in advance.
At the center, is Manila – tourist sometimes confuse it with Metro Manila. Manila is the capital of Philippines, it has some of the historic landmarks such as Intramuros, Fort Santiago and Binondo. Metro Manila, on the other hand, consists of Manila and surrounding cities like, Makati, Taguig, Quezon City, etc. Aside from the historical sites, tourist can enjoy numerous malls, museums, parks across Metro Manila.
Here are the places near Manila that are ideal for a quick getaway, staycation or road trip:

Lechon - The most iconic Filipino dish. Lechon is a highlight in most Filipino festivities and celebrations. Cebu and La Loma are known spots for a good lechon.
