Ah Chew Desserts is the most famous dessert place on Liang Seah Street in Bugis area. It began its operations last 2003. Now, they operate with two store units on the same street.
The branch has a traditional Chinese design, from the logo to its interiors. Initially, I really thought the shop was old and outdated, but upon research, I found out that the design was intentional, aiming to create a nostalgic atmosphere. I didn’t take a photo of the dining area since it’s small and I didn’t want to disturb guest during our visit.
Ah Chew Desserts specializes in traditional Chinese treats, offering a variety of desserts like soups, pastes, grass jelly, to name a few. Then, they also offer a wide array of flavors to choose from.
The choices was overwhelming for me, so I picked a flavor I am familiar with. I've tried Mango Sago, one of their best-selling cold desserts. You can add a scoop of ice cream to any cold dessert.
The Mango Sago dessert with an additional scoop of ice cream was refreshing, an ideal dessert in Singapore, especially during hot season. Ah Chew Desserts is usually packed, with locals lining up, a clear evidence that this is a must-try spot in Bugis or in Singapore.
Recommendation: I think the fruit and sago combination is popular for cold selection at Ah Chew Desserts.
Tip: Schedule your visit during off-peak as Ah Chew Desserts is popular among the locals and usually has a queue.
