Part of our DIY exploration of Singapore was visiting a hawker center, as is the most ideal place to experience authentic Singaporean cuisine. There were numerous food centers in Singapore and the one we visited was Newton Food Centre.

Newton Food Centre is one of the popular hawker center in Singapore. It was featured in the movie “Crazy Rich Asians”, which also helped attract even more tourists. Although it was closed during our visit, I had the opportunity to visit and experience the culinary offerings of Newton Food Centre with my Singaporean friends a few days earlier.

Newton Food Centre has an open-air dining setting with around 80 hawker stalls operating. Mostly likely, almost all of the must-try Singaporean dishes are offered here. I was overwhelmed by the diverse food options, so I let my friends decide which dishes we should try.

We sampled several Singaporean dishes during this experience: fried carrot cake, satay, oyster omelette, BBQ stingray, an Asian-style spaghetti

and Cereal Prawns.

Our friends also introduce to us sugarcane juice, mixed with lemon and served over ice. A refreshing drink, perfect for the hot weather.

A Singapore experience won’t be complete without trying the local cuisines. Since Singapore is a multicultural country, the cuisine is also diverse. The best place to try these delicious dishes is at a Hawker Center. Would definitely recommend Newton Food Centre, if you are looking for authentic Singaporean cuisine.

Recommendation: The cereal prawn, oyster omelette and the BBQ stingray.

Tip: If you’re in a group, best to order food for sharing so you can try a variety of Singaporean Cuisines.
