After a quick visit at Hie Shrine, we had some spare time to explore a little bit of Akasaka before continuing our DIY Tokyo Tour. We strolled along Esplanade Akasaka street, searching for a place to eat. We can’t help but noticed the old yellow restaurant in one of the corners of this modern bricked street - Ittenbari Ramen & Chahan Restaurant. Without much knowledge, we joined the queue and waited for its opening.
Typical to Japanese restaurants, the dining area of Ittenbari Ramen & Chahan Restaurant is small. It features 2 types of table seating: regular tables or the bar seats facing the open kitchen. However, I think it can only accommodate a maximum of around 10 – 15 guests at a time. The atmosphere of the restaurant is vintage and relaxed which adds to the experience.
Ittenbari Ramen & Chahan Restaurant started its operations in the 1970’s. Known for its Miso Ramen, Fried rice and Gyoza.
While Ittenbari Ramen & Chahan Restaurant specialty is the Akasaka-mori, we opted for Karamiso or the spicy miso based soup.
We also sampled the Awase or the combination of miso and soy sauce soup.
Lastly, we got the 6 pieces Gyoza. We were surprised by how large and flavorful the dumplings were. They were juicy and delicious. The best part was that it was quite affordable. Hands down, one of the best Gyoza I’ve tried in Japan.
When we decided to try Ittenbari Ramen & Chahan Restaurant, little did we know that it is a well-known ramen restaurant and it goes way back to ‘70s. The delicious food and friendly crew, really made it a memorable experience.
After a sumptuous brunch, we craved for some coffee and tried Mametora Coffee Roasters.
Recommendation: For best Ittenbari Ramen & Chahan experience, order the Ramen, Fried Rice and Gyoza.
Tip: Compliment your ramen experience with an ice cold Yebisu Beer.
