From Kifune Shrine, we went back to Shimogyo Ward for dinner on our second day in Kyoto.
Torikizoku is an izakaya restaurant chain that specializes in chicken yakitori. Torikizoku has branches throughout Japan and around 30 in Kyoto Prefecture. The branch we tried was Torikizoku Kyoto Shichijo branch, just beside Daiwa Roynet Ekimae PREMIER. Situated on 6th floor of Gravi building.
There’s a small waiting area between the elevator and the entrance of Torikizoku. During our visit, it was around dinner time, the waiting area was cramped.
Torikizoku’s interior is mostly wood and dimly lit. It has 6 counter seats and 64 regular tables. Overall, the restaurant has a typical izakaya atmosphere.
Although the place has a traditional setting, the ordering process is modern. You can place your orders thru a tablet.
We tried 3 types of yakitori: Kawa-Tare, Mi-Tare and Momo Kizokuyaki-Tare. Each order comes with 2 sticks of yakitori.
We also ordered 2 Gohan set. One order comes with an egg, pickles and miso soup.
We paired our yakitori with a refreshing glass of lemon sour.
If you are looking for an affordable yakitori restaurant around Japan, I recommend Torikizoku.
Before ending our second day in Kyoto, we tried an Uji Matcha Green Tea at Tsujiri.
Recommendation: Chicken yakitori.
Tips: Schedule your visit during off-peak hours to avoid long queue.
