While exploring Teramachi Street, we stumbled upon a modern and minimalist donut shop in Nakanocho. The ambiance was really inviting, and since we are craving for something sweet, we went in and gave it a try.
Koé Donuts is a donut factory in Downtown Kyoto that serves freshly baked donuts. Koé Donuts uses organic, natural and locally produced ingredients.
The donut factory's modern, minimalist design with bamboo accents makes it stand out in the area. Designed by Kengo Kuma, one of Japan’s leading architects, Koé Donuts boasts a spacious dining area and an open kitchen, allowing customers to watch the donut-making process.
Koé Donuts’ specialty is the donut melt, which is an eat-in only item. Aside from that, they offer around 30 kinds of donuts, including seasonal and limited edition donuts. Since this was our first time, we randomly picked two donuts.
Picked the Chocolate Crumble under the baked donuts category. While the other donut was available for a limited time only, Yatsuhashi Donut.
We were overwhelmed by the variety of donut options. The ones we tried were enjoyable, though I found them less sweet compared to other brands. Koé Donuts is perfect for health-conscious individuals, as they are organic and made with natural ingredients. The downside is the cost; we paid 781.00 yen for two donuts.
Recommendation: We haven’t tried it but their specialty is the donut melt.
Tips: Koé Donuts also offer a morning set and plant-based donuts.
