It was already past noon when we completed our tour of Kinkaku-ji. We decided to walk around the surrounding area and look for a place to have lunch. A few minutes away from Kinkaku-ji along Kitaoji Dori Street, we came across a small, modest restaurant named Ramen Kimura.
Ramen Kimura – owned and operated by a seasoned Japanese chef named Hayato Kimura. Ramen Kimura, started its operation last May 2022. Which we didn’t know during our visit :D
Inside, Ramen Kimura features a spacious dining area. One half has a regular table setup, while the other half has a bar counter seats facing the open kitchen.
Ramen Kimura specializes in 2 broths: a soy sauce-based fish broth and the chicken broth. There’s a ticket-ordering machine near the entrance of Ramen Kimura. During our visit, the menu includes a soup-less noodles, dipping noodles and chicken tempura bowl.
We wanted to maximize the experience so we decided to sample both the Special Rich Chicken Ramen and the Special Soy Sauce Ramen of Fish Broth.
Both the ramen bowls includes of egg, wontons and the evenly sliced char siu hanging on the edge of the ramen bowl.
Aside from the generous serving of the ramen bowls, I enjoyed the rich and flavorful chicken broth that complements the rare pork belly. While both ramen was delicious, I prefer the chicken broth.
After the satisfying bowl of ramen at Ramen Kimura, we continued with our Kyoto tour and travel further north to Kifune Shrine.
Recommendation: I think the Special Soy Sauce Ramen of Fish Broth is their best-seller.
Tips: Follow them on IG: @ramen_kimura for updates.
