Our first stop in our food trip around Teramachi Street was Gourmet Yakimusubi Onimaru, also known as Kyoto Onimaru. Situated just along the main road of Kawaramachi, we noticed that Kyoto Onimaru has queue, mostly locals. Taking it as a good sign, we decided to try several onigiri as a light snack.
Gourmet Yakimusubi Onimaru is known for freshly made onigiri / omusubi / Japanese rice balls with generous fillings. Offering more than 20 kinds of Japanese rice balls and specialty dishes, the store showcases its extensive selection of Japanese rice balls in large woven trays at the front. While the first floor is dedicated as counter and kitchen, Kyoto Onimaru features a small dining area on the second floor.
We have no clue what the best seller were, so we randomly picked two omusubi. The first was Komidare Ebi Tenmisu, which had three large tempura and omelet. I think the other one was called Aromidare Chicken Tartar, a crispy fried chicken tempura in a tartar sauce.
Apart from the portion size and price, Gourmet Yakimusubi's rice balls are also enjoyable. They are perfect if you are looking for a quick bite.
Recommendation: Any rice balls. Gourmet Yakimusubi Onimaru have an extensive selection that will cater to everyone.
Tips: For dine-in, Gourmet Yakimusubi Onimaru offers a complimentary tea.
