Marugame Udon is one of the largest Udon restaurant chains in Japan. The restaurant is known for its hand crafted Udon noodles which are freshly made on a daily basis. Marugame Udon has a cafeteria style or a self-service concept. With an open kitchen setup, it enables the guests to see the actual preparation of their orders. In addition to their signature Udon dishes, Marugame Udon also offers a selection of rice bowls.
Honestly, I wasn't particularly thrilled because I had already experienced Marugame Udon in Glorietta a few years ago, and it didn't leave a lasting impression on me. Perhaps it was because, back then, I haven’t tried Udon and opted for the standard Japanese rice bowls. However my sister suggested that I give Udon a try.
Marugame Udon in BGC is the first branch in Philippines.
In our BGC experience, I opted for Marugame Udon's top-selling dish – the Beef Ontama Bukkake Udon, featuring thinly sliced beef, a poached egg, and bukkake soup.
Guests also have the choice to include various tempuras, gyozas, and omusubi before proceeding to the cashier. While we sampled several Japanese deep-fried dishes, the hotdog (forgot the name of this one) turned out to be a delightful surprise.
Additionally, this is also my first time tasting an omusubi.
Here are some of the dishes we ordered: Karamiso Beef Udon,
and Beef Yakiniku Don.
My initial experience with Udon left a positive impression. The Beef Ontama Bukkake Udon features thick, chewy noodles with an exceptional flavor. I also noticed that; Marugame's Udon comes at a much lower price point compared to most Japanese restaurants in the area. Typically, a decent bowl of ramen at other Japanese restaurant can set you back around 500.00, whereas a large serving of Udon here costs less than 300.00. Therefore, if you're specifically craving for noodles, I recommend Marugame's Udon.
We also had the opportunity to try the Ayala Malls Solenad branch in Nuvali.
In this experience, I’ve tried the Chicken Paitan Udon.
