If you are looking for a spot to chill late afternoon in the walled city of Intramuros, then head to Batala Bar

Located in the Philippine Artisan Trade Gallery, just across San Agustin Church. This is part of the heritage area of Intramuros. Just like in Vigan, old structures and Cobblestone Street can be seen in this area.

The bar has an old Spanish colonial interior complete with stone and wood finish. First floor has the bar / kitchen and few tables.

On the 2nd floor, more tables plus section of Philippine Artisan Trade Gallery. Handmade Philippine products are displayed in this area.

Batala Bar menu includes sandwiches, rice bowls, pasta and some bar chows. But they are known for ice cream, coffee and locally crafted beers.

We tried both Panini - 3 Cheese, they use kesong puti, cheddar and mozzarella cheese. Then for the Bomba Longga, instead of ham, they use longganisa with onions, pickled vegetables and mozzarella cheese.

We also ordered, Malunggay Pesto Sardines. This one has angel hair pasta, Spanish sardines, cherry tomatoes and thin slices of bread.

We skipped the sundaes and coffee since we have other plans during our visit but tried their beer on tap. Tried Crazy Carabao to partner with our food.

To summarize, the food taste good but the serving size is small. Price is a little bit on the expensive side especially the craft beers. However I noticed that the coffees and sundaes were less expensive. Will try their coffee next time :D

What’s interesting about Batala Bar aside from the food, drinks and look of the place, is that it serves products that are 100% handmade in the Philippines.

Recommendations: Ice Cream and Coffees.

Tip: Batala Bar is open air and the structure is made of stone. This can be hot during mid-day. Schedule your visit late afternoon. Best spot is the table beside the window with the view of San Luis Plaza.
