Craving for some tapas we drove to Angeles, Pampanga to try El Español. El Español is a small Spanish restaurant located at The Quad, Nepo Center.

Since El Español is far from Manila, we didn’t limit our options to tapas or appetizers. Our plan was to try other Spanish cuisines as well, to make the most of our visit in this restaurant.

We had a hard time choosing what to order since we are not familiar with some of the dishes. Then, Chef Pedro went to our table and courteously recommended several Spanish cuisines.

The first to arrive was Gambas Al Ajillo. To simplify because I don’t know the exact ingredients, this is a sizzling shrimp in garlic sauce.

Next was Croquetas De Jamon. As explained they used a Serrano Ham rolled into croquettes. Among the dishes I’ve tried here in El Español, this is my top pick.

Of course we also ordered Paella, the Mixta version. This one consist of everything: chicken, pork and seafood.

To summarize, El Español did not disappoint. All the dishes we’ve tried were flavorful – even the complimentary bread haha. Serving size is for sharing. For the price, we ordered 6 dishes plus drinks and paid around PHP3,500.00. They are not expensive but not cheap either, price was just right.

For authentic Spanish cuisines, El Español should be on your list.

Recommendations: Croquetas De Jamon and Turron De Pollo

Tip: The place is small so I would recommend making reservations if you’re coming from Manila.
